Dainty Cake

I baked a simple banana spice cake a few weeks ago and attempted to make a pretty lace design on top with powdered sugar using a doily as a stencil. The stencil only half-worked but I still found it to be charming and quite delicious!

be back soon

I'm leaving for a quick trip to New York tonight, going to check out the Fall collections and hang out with my bestie Chelsea. I'm pretty sure tarot readings, brunch, karaoke, tacos and flea markets will also be involved. I'll be back early next week, any orders placed after 12:00pm PST on Thursday the 17th will not be shipped out until Wednesday the 23rd. Thanks for understanding, hope you all have a great weekend!

Twenty-Seven

My 27th year in pictures.

Birthday trip to Seattle to see Patti Smith, lifelong dream realized! She was promoting Just Kids and it was the most amazing experience to hear her read from the book. She played a few songs too but I think hearing her emotion behind the stories of her relationship with Robert was almost more special.

Cat show! This was my favorite dude, check out that mustache!
Trip to LA to get some much needed February sunshine and to see our friend's band play. It was 90 degrees that weekend!

Saw Charro perform at a casino and won $800 bones! Bought some Chanel flats with my winnings, haaayyyyyy!

Got engaged to the man I love, he surprised me with the most perfect antique deco ring.

Went camping in this mystical magical place.

The beautiful building next door to mine caught fire. I was almost certain my place would catch fire too, there's only maybe 10 feet between them. Scariest day of the year.

Started actually going on hikes instead of just talking about it, saw amazing things like these weird rare translucent flowers called the ghost plant.

Went on a somewhat spontaneous cross-country road trip with two of my best friends.

Survived a tornado.

Summerland opened for business!

Fall Forage

We received a shipment of beautiful forest-themed tea towels just in time for the holidays! These are hand-printed on 100% European linen and at only $26 would make a perfect gift.

I am so lucky to have a little brother that loves to mushroom hunt and actually knows what he's doing (he studied mycology in college). He gifted me a bag of chanterelles while I was visiting for Thanksgiving, they are my favorite mushroom ever! I love them simply sauteed in a little butter and garlic finished with a touch of cream, served on a thick slice of toast and sprinkled with a bit of parsley.

Chicken Paprikash

The cold is definitely upon us, it snowed in Portland earlier today and is supposed to continue tonight and through tomorrow. Seems like winter is coming a little early this year and I'm trying to keep warm with comforting foods. I felt like trying something new the other night and settled on chicken paprikash.

I was planning on making chicken and dumplings but didn't feel like trekking out to the store and magically had all the ingredients needed for the traditional Hungarian dish. I made a few modifications as I always seem to do. I substituted plain Greek yogurt for the sour cream and added some garlic (because seriously why would you not add garlic?). I was feeling lazy so I instead of making those probably-really-delicious little dumplings I used some Bavarian spaetzle that was hanging out in my pantry, so good!
